There are many computer viruses around, and it is wise to protect your computer from virus, worm, and Trojan horse attacks. However, you should view with care any unsubstantiated warnings you receive by email or see on newsgroups. Some of these warnings may be legitimate, but in most, the information is false and the danger is overstated.

These hoaxes usually arrive in the form of an email. Please disregard the hoax emails - they contain bogus warnings usually intent only on frightening or misleading users. The best course of action is to merely delete these hoax emails. Please refer to this page whenever you receive what appears to be a bogus message regarding a new virus, or promotion that sounds too good to be true.

Do not forward hoax messages. There have been cases where email systems have collapsed after dozens of users forwarded a false alert to everybody in the company.

For more information about virus hoaxes, see F-Secure's Hoax Warnings web site. This page is considered the industry standard information source for new virus hoaxes and false alerts.

These files were originally viruses that have been renamed by F-Secure in order to prevent them from infecting your computer. Disinfection was not possible because these files were 100% virus code and F-Secure renamed them automatically by giving them an ".0xe" or "0ll" extension. Renamed files (like "0xe" or "0ll") still contain malicious code, but they cannot spread or harm your computer anymore. You can delete the files manually or let F-Secure remove them automatically.
